Longwave should do the trick. Most amber fluoresces with UV, glowing a blueish to green color. Also, amber will float in a heavy salt water.
Your piece looks quite a bit like Indonesian amber with the color & fracturing. I would agree! I have 1kg Indonesian amber in my collection because I wanted to see how they are compared to those from other ... You almost want a feather touch when doing this.
dr amber samuel, Amber and copal for those of you that like copal is soft. So too much pressure and speed can lead to heating, cracking, or deeper scratches that you will still have to remove… I prefer hand sanding for all but the final SOFT cotton polishing. It takes longer but it gives better control.. Just a couple questions if i may… where were these found? What tests did you do to confirm they were amber?
dr amber samuel, I wasn’t aware of any amber deposits in pennsylvania…. can we get better pictures? Something doesn’t look quite right to me but it could be the pictures…. Amber isn't nearly as rare as some may think and many real specimens with insects are found and sold across the world. (More than 1% are genuine). More than 1% are genuine?
Are more than 98% inauthentic? This is a sincere question. I would have assumed “1%” was a typo, but my knowledge of amber is too limited to make assumptions. Insects in Amber?
